During this test, you will essentially have to show your instructor that you are capable of driving according to the laws of the road. However, if this is something that is new to you, you may be wondering what the Florida driving test requirements are and what you will be tested on.
Use this driving test study guide to help you know what to do to prepare for your Florida driving test.
Requirements Prior to Taking Your Driving Test
Before you can even go to take your driving test, you have to meet some minimum requirements. You will either need to have your learners permit for at least a year or be over the age of 18 in order to qualify for taking this test.
If you meet one or both of these qualifications, you will be eligible to take the driving test. You will need to bring your own vehicle for the test and will need to be able to perform specific actions while driving the vehicle.
What Will You Need to Do During the Test
Essentially, you will be tested on a variety of different maneuvers to ensure you can complete them without any issue. Below are the essential maneuvers as part of the test so you can practice before you take it.
- Three Point Turn – You will need to be able to turn your vehicle around in a 30 to 40 foot space. This is called a three point turn because it cannot be done without using more than one motion (forward, reverse, forward again, etc.).
- Shifting Gears – If you have a vehicle that is considered to be a manual, you will need to show that you can shift the vehicle smoothly. If you have an automatic vehicle, you will not be tested on this.
- Parking – This test is to show that you can park your vehicle in a parking spot both straight and centered. You will not have to perform a parallel parking test but must be able to park efficiently in a standard parking spot.
- Quick Stop – During the test, you will be asked to make a quick stop when prompted. You will be driving at least 20 MPH for this test and essentially it is to show that you can use quick reflexes in a safe manner while driving.
- Stop Signs – You will be tested on how to act at stop signs as well. This includes using your turning signal, coming to a complete stop, and then proceeding when it is safe and your turn.
- Going in Reverse – You will need to show that you can use your vehicle in reverse correctly. you will be asked to back up for 50 feet at a slow speed. During this test, you will need to turn your head to the rear instead of using a rear view mirror.
- Changing Lanes – You will need to show the right way to change lanes. The key is getting into the correct lane after you have used your turning signal for at least 100 feet before making the change.
- Staying in Your Lane – Another test is to make sure that you can effectively stay in your lane, the right lane without issue.
How to Pass the Florida Driving Test
There is no way to cheat on this test so the best way to prepare is through practice. You should attempt all of these maneuvers multiple times until you are comfortable with them.

Hey there, eTags doesn’t provide driver’s licenses services but this article mentions exemptions and should help with your question.
I am a Florida resident and I am renewing my license, but now I’m missing my right foot and I have a prosthetic, I am looking for requirements to retake my driving test. Can I just go take the test and drive with my left foot? Do I need to take any classes before I take the test?
hi there, eTags doesn’t process driver licenses, but you can check out this article for details. It seems like theres a disability test involved.
