Americans are ready to fly the friendly skies. An AAA report just revealed international flights from America increased 200% from 2022. London trips went up even more —nearly 350%. Americans rather fly abroad to Europe and Canada. Even international cruises are up 30% which has even more people flying to get to their cruise destination. Areas that top the cruise list include in Northern Europe, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and Southeast Asia.

Of course, more demand brings on higher ticket prices. AAA says airfare for international travel are up more than 30%. So what can you do to save money on your travels?

Wednesdays are great for long haul fights. You can save an average of about 9% less than flying on weekends according to Hopper
Track airfare

Book travel way ahead
If you want to save some bucks when traveling, book your international flight at least a month ahead. Prices spike for last-minute travelers. Six months ahead, even better says Expedia. CheapAir.com recommends booking 300 days to 3.5 months for flying to Canada. The Caribbean? 4.5 months to 1 month before. Asia? 10 months before your flight!

Be flexible: dates, airports, airline carrier
Not only in your dates, but also in the airport you’re flying into. Secondary airports like London’s Gatwick, Belfast City, Ireland or Ciampino International Airport in Rome, Italy. Low-cost airlines can really make a difference. French Bee had NY to Paris’ Orly Airport for $228 one-way, as of this writing. Leaving from San Francisco to Tahiti? $361 one-way.

Travel off-season
Summer travel is going to be busy and expensive, but if you can hold off on booking your vacation you can skip crowded attraction spots and save big on airfare. Going to Europe in October or February is cheaper on airfare and lodging.

If you can manage with a carry-on, save money by skipping the checked luggage. Or if you’re flying together as a family, maybe parents get to check bags, and the kids only have carry-ons.

According to Travel Off Path, Buenos Aires hotel stays in Argentina will rise 30% this year. In Sao Paulo in Brazil, hotel rates will go up 7.7%. Dublin, Ireland up 8.5%. Frankfurt, Germany up 7.5%. Tel Aviv, Israel, only 1%.
