How to Renew a Mississippi Driver’s License
What do I need and how do I renew my Mississippi driver’s license? Good questions.
If your a license driver in Mississippi, you will eventually need to renew your driver’s license and likely be wondering how to renew.
The good news is that the state makes it as easy and convenient as possible to get a Mississippi license renewal.
Driver’s licenses are valid in Mississippi for four or eight years. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you may only renew for one year, or for the length of your stay in the United States.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) license renewal requires a medical exam but otherwise is just as easy as a regular Mississippi license renewal.
Whether you renew online, in person or by mail, you should receive your valid license within seven days. You may renew in any of these ways as long as your license has not expired. Mississippi driver’s license renewal may be done up to six months before it expires, and up to a year after the expiration date.
You will have to pay a late fee, but not anything else. You may renew your license online if it has expired for up to one year past the expiration date. If you have restrictions on your license, you will not be able to do the transaction online.
If you need to change your address or name on the license, you will have to do that in person as well.
Renewing an Expired Drive’s License
If your license has been expired for more than a year you will have to take the drivers test and the written test again. If your license is suspended you will have to get it reinstated before you can renew your Mississippi driver’s license.
Replacing a Lost or Stolen Driver’s License
If your license is lost or stolen, you may renew it if you know your driver’s license number. If not, you will have to go in person to request a duplicate or to renew.
If you are an out of state resident you will have to prove citizenship and have a valid license from the state you were living in.
Online Driver’s License Renewal
To renew your driver’s license online in Mississippi, you must be at least 17 years old, and you must have renewed your license last time in person.
Those looking to renew a commercial driver’s license (CDL) will not be able to take advantage of the online license renewal service.
If you renew online the last photo on your license will be used again, or you will get a notification that you must come to a DMV office to get a picture taken. All you need to have is your license number, provide your full name and date of birth, and then make payment.
Renewing Your Driver’s License by Mail
You may renew your license by mail via USPS if you are in the military and stationed out of the country. You will need a copy of your military orders and a letter from your commanding officer. There are other restrictions if you are in Germany.
The procedure is the same if you are in college out of state.
Required License Renewal Fees
A four-year license fee is $24 and an eight-year license fee is $47. If you are late you are late you will have to pay an additional fee. There is a small online fee as well.

In Mississippi, you will have already provided proof of citizenship when you get your license. As long as you can prove your current address, you don’t have to provide any further identification to renew your license.
Your current valid driver’s license will suffice as proof.
If you do change your address, you will need to notify the DMV and get a new license, and that will count as a renewal. Showing mail with your address on it will also suffice as proof of your address if you do not have your current license available.
