You’ll find people who are so nervous about the exam that they don’t even show up or others who request some extra classes, cancelling their DMV appointment.
However, there’s not really much you can do to make the exam easier unless you work on your attitude towards hard situations like this.
For that reason, here are some tips to make your driving license test less traumatic.
Trust your driving instructor before taking a driving license test
Your driving instructor is the person that you should trust the most while learning to drive.
From your strengths and weaknesses to the level confidence behind the wheel, your instructor knows you quite well and you should always listen to them if they find you are ready to take the road test.
They’ll let you know when is the best time to give it a try based on continuous assessments. If your instructor finds that you need more practice or confidence, he or she will ask you for some extra lessons.
Plan a drivers license practice test with your instructor
You are probably feeling comfortable having your driving instructor helping you handle difficult maneuvers during a lesson but that won’t be the case during your exam.
In fact, you may have little interaction with your examiner apart from following instructions. That could make you feel more stressed about the idea of taking that road test.
For that reason, ask your instructor to arrange a mock driving test so you could have a better idea of what to expect once you take your exam.
Your driving test examiner is not against you
Don’t assume that your examiner plans on ruining your day by asking you the hardest things someone could ever get. They are not waiting for you to fail as all they want is to ensure you are a safe driver.
Examiners are good at their job and they can tell whether you are a nervous or not even confident enough about your driving skills.
The best advice is to pay attention to what you’ve been asked to do, what’s going on the road, and don’t be afraid to ask for clarification whether you are not sure about any particular instruction.
Don’t spread the news about your DMV drivers license road test
It’s never good to share the news about the date of your driving test since you don’t know whether you are even passing or having to re-take it.
The best time to share the news is when you passed the exam. You’ll have enough time and reasons to gather with everyone your new achievement.
Never panic during a driver license road test
Everyone makes mistakes, even when you think you are confident enough to pass your exam. If that ever happens to you, don’t panic!
Note that there are some mistakes that are not really that significant and you may still be far from failing.
Whether you feel that you made a terrible mistake, ask for a repetition so you could show that you know how to do it. You still have a chance.

Thanks for the nice post
The more you are prepared for the test, the more chances you’ll have to get a license. Good luck.
I checked this out because my younger brother is taking his driving test soon and I was hoping to pass on some tips. I agree that you should trust your driving instructor and also not tell others about when you plan to take the test. The first time I went to take mine I forgot important paperwork and had to reschedule it, and then I failed the next time. It was on my third visit to the DMV that I finally got my license. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Hi Kirk. Sometimes people fail and that’s a very common thing to happen but once you learn from your mistakes, nothing could stop you from winning. Of course, you are not the only person who had to retake the exam, but keep in mind that you could always learn and grow from it.
