Hello and welcome to another superfun edition of our blog here at eTags! For our new readers who may not already know, we like to talk about all things relevant to the automotive world. If it’s somehow connected to motorized vehicles (or even non-motorized subjects, like trailers or trends or titles) we’re into it. And as you may already know, throughout our blog we present an ongoing series each week that presents a program we think is pretty much the bee’s knees.

You guessed it…(maybe)…it’s the Florida Specialty Plate Spotlight Series. In case this is your first foray into all things eTags or into our regular musings on the world of automobiles, here’s what the series is: Each week we highlight one of Florida’s many specialty tags on offer.
Each Specialty Plate features a different theme, and behind each theme there lies a cause that will receive the proceeds from the purchase of that particular plate.
For example, let’s say you opt for a Miami Heat Specialty Plate. Your license plate will then have a different design from Florida’s standard tag, and the slight added cost of this unique plate will then afford you the opportunity to support the charities that the Miami Heat supports. So it’s a straight-up win-win kind of deal; you get to show the world your dedication to your chosen team while also engaging in philanthropy.
Across the board, the Florida Specialty Plate Program has raised millions and millions of dollars over the years through its connected organizations and foundations. And today’s spotlight is so very quintessentially Florida, it’s basically a no-brainer.
Ladies and gentleman, we give you Walt Disney World!
Now, if the theme alone weren’t enough to evoke sweet memories and deep childhood nostalgia, the cause behind the plate may be enough to convince you of the merits of opting for this design. You see, the Walt Disney World Specialty Plate directs all its proceeds to the well-known Make-A-Wish Foundation. For the sake of clarity (though we assume most folks out there are familiar with this foundation), let us explore the world of Make-A-Wish.
Back in 1980, a community in Phoenix, Arizona came together to support the wish of a young boy battling leukemia. At the tender age of seven, Christopher James Greicius had the dream to become a police officer. Witnessing his struggle and his desire, the people of Phoenix turned the boy’s dream into a reality, thus granting the first wish of what would become hundreds of thousands of fulfilled wishes.
Since then, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has been tirelessly working on preserving and enacting their mission to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Their aim is not only to grant the wishes, but to exceed the expectation of these kids, thus impacting their lives forever.
The foundation recognizes that wish fulfillment is not just a single event.
They know that it is more than a simple gift or a casually nice thing. Make-A-Wish has proven time and again that wishes profoundly affect everyone involved in the process. The children, the volunteers, the donors, the medical professionals, the communities, and the families are all positively transformed by the experience.
Over the years of fulfilling wishes for children with serious illnesses, Make-A-Wish has witnessed how the wish can encourage kids to comply with treatment, how it can give the children courage to overcome fear and resistance. Wishes has given parents a new lease on optimism, shown them to hold on to hope. And on the periphery, wishes demonstrate to communities and bystanders the beautiful and lasting impression they too might leave on the world through volunteer work or philanthropy.
Clearly, Walt Disney World understands this noble mission and its effects. Thus, ever since introducing their Specialty Plate during their 50th Anniversary celebration, they have helped raise over $2 million for Make-A-Wish in central and northern Florida.
During the forty years that Walt Disney World has worked with Make-A-Wish, they have granted more than 155,000 Disney-inspired wishes, and continue to collaborate with the foundation. This makes a whole lot of sense when you think about Disney’s most beloved song, “When You Wish Upon A Star.”
The partnership between Walt Disney World and Make-A-Wish is like a match made in heaven…. or on the stars, if you will.
So, how do you go about supporting this marriage of magic and wishes? Well, it’s pretty easy, considering the huge impact you’re about to facilitate. Here’s how you go about it: head over to our site at www.etags.com. From our drop-down menu, choose Florida as your state. Once you’re in that menu, choose the Get Specialty and/or Personalized Plate option. You will be guided through a simple step-by-step process to order your tag in no time!
A quick note here: this is a great moment to tell you that you can also personalize your Walt Disney World plate. So not only can you opt for the special tag, but you can make your mark even more distinct by creating your own letter/number combo. As long as your choice is DMV-approved, you will be granted your own wish of a Specialty Plate with the ID of your choosing.
And another super cool aspect of this process is that you are permitted to upgrade to a Specialty Plate at any time during your registration period. Whether you’re up for registration renewal, if you’re registering your vehicle for the first time, or at any point along the way, you can elect to change your current plate or choose a Specialty Plate at will. Yep, you don’t have to wait for renewal or go buy a whole new car in order to get your fancy tags. Any time is the right time.
We know, it’s almost too good to be true, right? Well, we may not be the Make-A-Wish Foundation, but here at eTags, we do love making all things automotive quick and easy for you. Titles, tags, questions, comments, concerns – whatever you might need, give us a shout, because as always, we’re here to help!
