Updated April 2023: In an election year, it’s especially difficult to find things that people can agree upon regardless of what state they happen to call home. However, whether you are from the west coast or live right here in Florida, we can safely assume that you’re not the biggest fan of the DMV. The long lines, the annoying hours, the dread that comes with knowing that today is the final day to renew your vehicle registration, (if so, Happy Birthday!). There’s a pressure to the whole process. Fortunately, for residents of the Sunshine State, eTags is out to change that for good.
Use eTags© to Quickly Complete Your DMV Service. Renewals, Title Transfers and More, All Online!
eTags makes it possible for drivers to complete their vehicle registration online and receive an e-copy of the registration card. If a vehicle owner happens to lose their registration, eTags provides one free lost registration replacement. If you’re in a particular rush because your tags are already expired or you need proof of renewal for things like getting your car out of the impound, we are able to rush the processing, too.
With most DMV offices closing last year, new, better, faster to ways to renew couldn’t come at a better time.
Standard Vehicles
Most standard vehicles need to have their registration renewed on or 90 days before the registered owner’s birthday. The renewal is required every one or two years depending on what the vehicle owner has selected. Keep in mind that if you have multiple names on the registration, the person whose name appears on the registration first is who the expiration date will be based on in accordance with their date of birth. If the vehicle is in the name of a business, the expiration date will be on the date the vehicle was first registered, known as the effective registration date. When you renew with eTags, we’ll send reminders electronically so you know exactly when the process is looming.
Motorcycles
As with standard motor vehicles, motorcycle registrations will need to be renewed every year or other year. Unlike with standard vehicles though, you are not required to have insurance for your motorcycle. However, not having insurance can lead to fines and loss of license should you be involved in a crash. While note required for motorcycle owners, we recommend pricing out insurance quotes to see if you can find something in budget that can cover you in case anything happens.
Trucks and Commercial Vehicles
While the rules and regulations are a bit different, the same quality of service from eTags applies to all commercial vehicles. Owners of commercial vehicle and trucks weighing over 5,000 pounds must renew the registration every 6 or 12 months on June 30 and/or December 31 depending on whether you are on a 6 or 12 month renewal term. Your Florida registration renewal date will be determined upon your first registration date. Unlike motorcycles, you are required by law to have insurance on your commercial vehicle in order to renew your registration.
RV and Motorhomes
Florida is one of the best places to own an RV, miles of coastlines, year-round sunshine, state park camping, and beauty everywhere you look. Talk about scenic drives! If you own a motorhome, you must register it in FL. To register your recreational vehicle in Florida, you first need insurance coverage. You also need the title of your RV to prove you’re the owner.
If your recreational vehicle doesn’t have a title in your name, you can apply for it at the same time you’re registering the vehicle. Use Form HSMV 82040 called Application for Certification for Title With/Without Registration. For an easy and convenient process, you can do the entire transaction though eTags online. No visits to DMV, plus access to customer support should you have any questions about your application.
