While we are embracing a new digital transformation, the automotive industry will keep impressing us with their modern approach to mobility.
Yet, do you still remember those car features that made our driving experience more engaging?
Perhaps you feel a deep sense of nostalgia whenever you think of how things used to work on the past.
That’s a common sensation though. Below we grouped 5 amazing car features that no longer exist but make a great impact on our lives to say the least.
Audible turn signals – Those loud ones!
Back in the old days, motorists were more aware of their turn signals because of the loud clicking noise that vehicles made when using it.
The noise was a little annoying which made drivers be more responsible about their use.
Today, modern vehicles do not come with audible turn signals, which is the reason why you see many other vehicles activating their signals for any other reason.
Metal car keys
New car owners are no longer required to hold a metal key to operate their vehicles. Today, modern cars are equipped with an start/stop ignitions and electronic key fobs.
These fobs unlock vehicle doors once you get closer to your vehicle. Once you are inside your car, all you need to do is press the “start” ignition button to begin driving.
Vehicle companies, like Mercedes Benz, also developed mobile applications to let you locate your vehicle from your smartphone.
Built-in ashtrays
Along with electric lighters, ashtrays were also trendy additions for many drivers who needed to find a place to smoke peacefully.
However, non-smokers also found such feature surprisingly useful, especially when they needed a coin compartment.
Today, ashtrays are no longer part of our interiors, and they have been replaced by more sophisticated features such as phone charger ports.
Radio antennas
Do you remember when vehicles used to be equipped with radio antennas? Perhaps you were not born yet, but that was a reality.
These antennas fail to improve the appearance of a vehicle but they were practical for many drivers who wanted to give their cars an enhanced radio reception.
Of course, this car feature no longer belong to our present, but there are still many cars that are equipped with much shorter fixed antennas.
Bench seats
In the old days, prior to the popularity and enforcement of seat belt laws, bench seats allowed drivers to accommodate more passengers inside a car.
You could even accommodate 4 passengers in the front bench seat, if they were small enough.
It was a perfect scenario for young couples with kids who would rather share the front bench seat with them.
That’s a benefit that nobody can enjoy anymore owing strict safety regulations.
