Yes, it will be a problem to drive with car with an expired tag. If you are pulled over, you may be cited and/or the car may be towed.
Florida dealers are required to complete the title and registration process for newly purchased vehicles within 30 days. If a dealer is not authorized to issue the permanent metal license plates on the spot, then they will typically issue a 30-day temporary tag. Some dealers may be able to issue an additional 10-day tag but only under specific circumstances. If the dealer has all the paperwork, namely the car title, only they can complete the process to title and register the vehicle and any delays on their part to issue you your permanent registration may be grounds to seek legal counsel, especially if you are cited or your car is towed due to the tags being expired. Also important to note, they may have charged a service fee, beyond the required DMV registration fees and taxes, for completing the title and registration process that you may want to consider requesting a refund for in lieu of the delays and inconvenience to you. Best of luck.
