eTags is a private company licensed by DMV's in several states. When you visit eTags.com and enter your vehicle information, you are notified if there any issues that would prevent us from completing your order. If an issue is found after you've place an order, you are notified by email and text with information on the issue and how to resolve it.
As it relates to installment plans, we are not aware of DMVs offering them in the states we service. eTags offers installment plans through our direct partnership and integrations with companies like Affirm and PayPal. We recommend contacting the DMV in your state to confirm what payment options are available. In California, for example, if unpaid parking tickets are due when its time to renew, you can request to pay just the registration fees to avoid late penalties being added if the registration is about to expire. In so doing, you get a registration card showing your fees are paid but you don't get the new plate sticker until the remaining amount is paid. Also, some north-eastern states do offer payment plans for things like fees associated with license suspension but we have not seen that extend to other fees like those due to register a car or pay renewal fees. Best of luck.
